Bike Tour by Day
Day 1: Arriving in Vienna
Your lovely family hotel is a 19th century Art Nouveau villa with a beautiful garden in the finest residential area of Vienna. You will meet us in the hotel, and taste some typical Austrian specialities at a Heuriger restaurant in the famous Grinzing wine region.
Day 2: Cycling from Vienna to Sopron
Just a short ride, and we bicycle along Lake Neusiedl. Biking through picturesque vineyards and villages in the Fertő-Hanság National Park, we stop in Rust, the pretty town of storks. We ride to Sopron, and stay 2 nights in a perfect place for relaxation, a fantastic monastery where you’ll enjoy the cultural heritage of 500 years, combined with the comfort of the 21th century, and a delicious dinner under wonderful 18th century frescoes. Day 3: Sopron & Lake Fertő
A nice stroll in the lovely town Sopron, among its Roman city walls & historic buildings. We bike through nice woods to Lake Fertő, enjoy a boat trip in one of the most interesting steppe lakes of Europe, an old quarry with a fantastic paleontological exhibition, and a gourmet dinner & organic wines in a unique restaurant of Hungary, full of antiquities and special decoration, made by the “Winemaker of winemakers” awarded owner. Day 4: Cycling to the Greatest Hungarian
We visit the mansion of Count István Széchenyi, a prominent Hungarian statesman of the 19th century. The museum gives you a deep insight into his outstanding work promoting Hungary’s transport, industry, agriculture, and some of his projects such as the renowned Chain Bridge in Budapest. Cycling through nice and peaceful landscapes, we get to an old watermill, our lovely hotel with a small park, swimming pool, and cosy restaurant. (cycling appr 53km/33m)
Day 5: Kőszeg and the Írott Kő Nature Park
Let’s walk around the prettiest town in Hungary, „the Sub-Alpine jewel-box”. Every house has its individual story and decoration, as well as the frescoed city hall and the castle, protected from the Turks in 1532. Cycling along antique wine cellars, wonderful woods and hills, you’ll enjoy an incredible experience & some local wine in a unique „iron-curtain museum” in picturesque vineyards. Then we ride to a small 19th century Castle with lovely rooms and a friendly atmosphere. (cycling appr 38km/24m)
Day 6: Bicycling from Castle to Castle
Our bike tour takes us through sleeping hamlets, beautiful woods, softly undulating lands in a quite hidden and fascinating area of Hungary, where the time stops and silence finds home. You can enjoy an interesting village museum with old thatched houses, typical local specialities in a lovely “csárda” inn, and 2 nights in a beautiful Castle of a famous Hungarian noble family, with a nice park and spa. (cycling appr 60km/37m)
Day 7: Keszthely and Hévíz
We visit the Festetics Castle, a wonderful Baroque palace of Hungary with a beautiful English Garden, rich furniture, and its biggest treasure, the Helikon Library. The Festetics family founded the first agricultural institute of Europe, and developed a cultural center in Keszthely. Then you can swim among lovely water-lilies in the 2nd biggest thermal lake of the world in Hévíz, a unique & famous cure resort of Hungary and Europe.
Day 8: Cycling along Lake Balaton
We bike on the North side of the largest lake in Central Europe, most popular summer resort of Hungary, with breathtaking scenery of the volcanic hills & nice vineyards at Badacsony and Szigliget. Biking through the picturesque Káli Basin with unique „stone seas” and „basalt organs”, we get to Tihany, the nicest place of Balaton with a famous Benedictine abbey (founded in 1055). We enjoy a lovely stroll among the charming thatched houses & souvenir shops, the wonderful view of Balaton, and our dinner in our cosy hotel. (cycling appr 53km/33m)
Day 9: Tihany - Budapest
We cycle through Balatonfüred, an old health resort, and visit the world-famous Herend Porcelain Manufactory, where you’ll learn their history, and how they make their wonderful products by hand. We drive to Budapest, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Royal Palace or the Danube from your lovely design hotel, and our farewell dinner in a nice traditional restaurant of Buda. (cycling appr 15km/9m)
Day 10: Tour end in Budapest
After enjoying the friendly atmosphere of your hotel, we hope you get home safe & sound, with nice memories for a lifetime.
